Accessibility Statement

Public lands belong to everyone, and so should information about them. We build this site to work for as many people as possible, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, or other assistive tools.

Our Standards

We target WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance. That means sufficient color contrast, keyboard-accessible navigation, semantic HTML, proper ARIA attributes, and logical heading structure on every page.

What We Do

  • Text alternatives for all non-text content
  • Minimum 4.5:1 color contrast ratio for normal text
  • Full keyboard navigation throughout the site
  • Semantic HTML and proper ARIA attributes
  • Logical heading hierarchy on every page
  • Skip-to-content links for screen reader users
  • Respect for reduced-motion preferences
  • Testing with VoiceOver and keyboard-only navigation

Known Limitations

We're not perfect yet. Some older content may not fully meet every accessibility standard. If you find something that doesn't work, tell us and we'll fix it.

Testing

We test with Lighthouse, axe DevTools, keyboard-only navigation, and VoiceOver on macOS. Automated tools catch a lot, but they don't catch everything, which is why your feedback matters.

Report an Issue

Run into something that doesn't work? That's a bug. Email us at [email protected] with the subject line "Accessibility Issue" and include:

  • The page URL
  • What went wrong
  • What assistive technology you were using (if applicable)

We aim to respond within 5 business days.
